Episode 1: doctor's orders by the pool
Subtitles on, free account on Candy.ai: that is how I watched the first two episodes, and the story comes from inside the stepdad's head. His thoughts are the narration, which is how you learn that he is noticing his stepdaughter too. Harriet announces that her mom wants him to keep her company all week, doctor's orders, and the wife, laid up in the room, confirms it, adding that she could not ask for a better husband.
By the pool Harriet asks for sunscreen help, joking that her arms are too short, and she praises his hands a little too precisely. When her mom calls, Harriet reports that he is being very hands-on, and the narration panics at how badly she lies. The episode ends on her idea of a curtained VIP daybed, charged to her mom's card, and on the stepdad's own question: should he say no?
Episode 2: a three-year secret and a cookie order
Episode 2 opens with a protest that she should not be in here, and Harriet drops the cover story. She tells him she has been watching him since the day he danced with her mom at the wedding, three years ago, and that she has thought a lot about what he would be like. He answers that he is her stepdad, and she answers that it does not matter. The scene turns physical, and in the middle of it the wife calls: she can finally keep something down and wants cookies from the little shop. By the time episode 2 closed, the direction was clear, and its last line is "Tell her 10 minutes."
Where does the vacation go after episode 2?
The wife's recovery sets the clock. In episode 1 she is laid up, in episode 2 she is hungry, and each step toward health shrinks the window. Who is Harriet, and who is the stepdad?
Harriet is 23, nervous at the start of the premise and the one steering by episode 2. The stepdad has no name: the premise says you are him, and the narration makes him the viewer's stand-in. The wife is the third corner, heard on the phone and close to the plot throughout. The script sounds British, with prawns, suncream and lads at the pool. Generated characters, no licensed twin: this series sits outside the Candy Shorts creator shelf.
