Summer break from college, a killer beach house and no rules: that is the plan, and it holds for about as long as it takes Slade to meet his girlfriend's stepmom. Stepmom Summer Fling on Candy Shorts spends two short episodes showing why the plan is already in trouble.
Episode 1: meeting the family at the beach house
From a free Candy.ai account, captions switched on, episode 1 introduced the cast fast. Gretchen brings her boyfriend, Slade, to the family beach house and introduces him around. Her stepmom introduces herself as Holly. Slade fumbles: Gretchen said stepmom, and he had pictured someone not like her. Gretchen's father is relaxed about the visit and offers Slade his respect and his sympathy for dating his daughter. Slade's private reaction is a curse of disbelief. Then Gretchen introduces her best friend, Brittany. A round of "do I look familiar?" follows, and it soon shows that some of the people at this house share a past. The episode closes on a blunt "I'm game" about a fling with his girlfriend's stepmom.
Episode 2: a club near Montauk and a Ferris wheel
The second episode explains the déjà vu. Slade and Holly talk alone, and he works out where he knows her from: after seeing Brittany, he remembers both women dancing on a stage at a club down near Montauk. Holly remembers him as well, and she has a request, since her husband does not know about those days. She asks him to keep it between them, and she promises a surprise later. Slade agrees and says he will not even tell his girlfriend. On the boardwalk a Ferris wheel gets some refusals, one over a fear of heights, so Gretchen sends Slade up with her stepmom to keep her company. At the top Holly says the view is not about the boardwalk, tells him she has something to show him and offers a reminder of the club. He says he remembers, and the episode ends there.
Stepmom Summer Fling on Candy Shorts: a summer with two tracks
The setup gives the season a double life: beach-town days with Gretchen and a second line with Holly. The free pair hands Holly the leverage, a secret about her past that Slade now holds, and hands Slade a promise he has already made to keep from his girlfriend. Past that point lies the paywall, and my viewing ended at the top of the wheel.
Four names and a husband
Gretchen is the girlfriend, Slade the boyfriend, Holly the stepmom and Brittany Gretchen's best friend. Gretchen's father is the husband who is kept in the dark. Gretchen and Slade are adult college students, aged 18 or older, in a made-up story, and Brittany and Holly are adults too, Holly a married one. All of them are generated, not filmed, and no creator's twin is involved.
Heat in the lines, not on the screen
